Here are some of the ways First Parish makes a difference locally & globally!
AIDS Response Seacoast
We walk to benefit AIDS Response Seacoast, a non-profit community-based AIDS Service Organization dedicated to providing education, direct assistance and advocacy for persons and communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
Birthday Bags
We fill Birthday Bags with goodies for children's birthday parties. They're distributed through the York Food Pantry.
Child Sponsor UCC
Child Sponsor UCC supports a child at the Rawdat El Zuhur School in East Jeruselem, Israel.
Common Hope
A group of youth and adults from First Parish travel to Guatemala to pitch in through hands-on mission work. Additionally, we sponsor children to help cover the cost of their education.
Creation Care Committee
God entrusted humankind with caring for the earth. We are committed to becoming a 'zero-waste' church and that means we reduce, reuse, recycle. Beach clean-ups, composting, and tire-pressure checks are just a few of the ways we're making a difference in York. We strive to educate the community about ways to reduce each of our carbon footprints through presentations and printed materials.
Daisy's Children/Feeding Forward
Daisy's Children/Feeding Forward is a non-profit organization founded in the Honduran village Concepcion del Norte. First Parish has supported the program by filling buckets and with financial contributions.
Dress A Girl Around The World
Dress A Girl Around The World is a Campaign, under Hope 4 Women International, bringing dignity to women around the world since 2006. Folks from First Parish sewed dresses for girls.
End 68 Hours of Hunger
We collect nonperishables for "End 68 Hours of Hunger" which serves the needs of school children who receive subsidized meals at school and would otherwise be hungry over the weekend (between meals served at school).
Fair Tide
We support Fair Tide which provides affordable housing in a safe setting for those experiencing homelessness.
Four Directions
We support Four Directions, a low interest housing loan program for Maine Native Americans.
Giving Tree
The Giving Tree helps to give local families in need a better Christmas and makes winter easier for those in need.
Heifer International
Our youth and children support Heifer International through fundraising and educational activities.
Maine Seacoast Mission
We're proud to help MSM provide community services in coastal towns in Downeast Maine.
Mitten Tree
Those attending our Christmas Eve family service are invited to decorate two Christmas trees with mittens, hats, and scarves which are then distributed locally.
Pumpkin Patch
Each fall, pumpkins adorn the green in front of First Parish's stone office building, creating an impressive and festive sight! The pumpkins are grown and supplied by Navajo Native Americans and we return 2/3 of the funds raised to them. The additional 1/3 is dispersed locally as part of our Mission budget.
Table of Plenty
Table of Plenty serves our neighbors with a community meal every Tuesday at our Fellowship Hall. Every 8 weeks, a team from First Parish prepares meals.
York Community Services Association
YCSA provides social services, a thrift store, and a food pantry. We support YCSA financially and have regular, ongoing collections for the food bank.
York Family Fund
Through the York Family Fund, we provide critical financial assistance to those facing unanticipated and dire circumstances.
Youth Mission Trip
Every year several high school youth and chaperones go beyond York to help with carpentry, painting, and reconstruction projects. First Parish supports our youth in this endeavor.
