The Oasis - August 23, 2023

Today, I came into the office to find that one of our First Parish members left me a list of church bulletin bloopers. You may have seen this already. It reports to be a compilation of funny sentences that actually appeared in church bulletins:
Don’t let worry kill you off – let the church help.
The sermon this morning: “Jesus walks on water.” The sermon tonight: “Searching for Jesus.”
The rector will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing: “Break Forth into Joy.”
Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00PM – prayer and medication to follow.

You get the idea. The thing that really caught my attention was the title of the page on which these bloopers were written. In big, bold letters, it reads, “They’re Back! Those Wonderful Church Bulletins!” When I read that, it dawned on me that very soon we will “be back.” Folks will be back from vacation. Children and youth will be back at school. The Sanctuary Choir will be back at First Parish.
Our kickoff Sunday or Rally Day will be September 10th. I hope you will make an effort to join us! Please make sure you look at your September newsletter for information about Rally Sunday and all our fall offerings. Soon we will be back, but hopefully, minus any bulletin bloopers.

Blessings,
Eric
