Child Sponsor UCC supports a child at the Rawdat El Zuhur School in East Jeruselem, Israel.

Common Hope Three years ago a group of youth and adults from First Parish traveled to Antiqua, Guatemala to support the Common Hope project there. Common Hope changes lives through education. When a student enrolls in the program, the cost of their education is covered. As long as a student remains in school, their family receives free health care and is eligible through a work equity program to receive a stove. Our Mission Board decided to become a Common Hope Partner Church and made a $1000 donation to the program and we became sponsors of two children. Yohir Rodrigo Torres Cantreeas (9yrs) and Cecilia Maribel Benatez Laz (11 yrs.). You are encouraged to write to these children to let them know there is a wider community of care who thinks of them and prays for them.

Daisy’s Children/Amigos is a non-profit organization founded in the Honduran village Concepcion del Norte. Daisy’s children recognizes the need for a multifaceted approach to humanitarian aid by providing not only food to Hondurans, but all products and services essential to family life. First Parish has supported Amigos in the past (filling buckets) and this year made a significant contribution. The York Association UCC strongly supports Daisy’s Children and encourages its member churches to do the same. Many of our congregation will remember Maria Elena Paz and Antony Paz, ministers from Concepcion del Norte, who visited us this past spring to thank us for our support.

Dress A Girl Around The World is a Campaign, under Hope 4 Women International, bringing dignity to women around the world since 2006. Hope 4 International is a nondenominational independent Christian organization. Providing a new dress may well change a young girl’s destiny. Village pastors say that a girl wearing a new dress presents an appearance that she is well cared for and may discourage would be predators. First Parish had 24 sewers at its first sew-a-thon and has scheduled another in August. Truly a “ hands on “ mission.

Heifer International is a popular mission outreach by Christian Education. This ongoing mission by our children includes “ read to feed “ fundraising along with educational activities ending with a visit to a heifer farm in Rutledge, Massachusetts.
